jonesing for travel

The sun is brightening the apartment and my alarm just went off... no time for a nap before work.

I'm awake earlier than I want to be. Sara got up for her 8am shift and I somehow woke right up after a long wedding day shoot and hour drive home last night. I fell asleep sitting on the couch while backing up my photos and recharging everything for today's out of town shoot in Indy. I'm thinking donuts sound good and I should probably kick a pot of coffee into drip while it's on my mind. Nah.

Fall is near. A best friend moved to Germany and already visited Prague. For you non-geography buffs (or me who is kinda lost with Euro-geography) Prague is in another country. So he's been to two countries in 2 days. Weasel. That travel bug bit him good while living on the west coast. Can't say I blame the guy.

I went to leave Jon a comment on his Pragueventure and realized it's been all of 7 years since I was in Europe. I've been having travel nostalgia flashbacks this week. I left my iPod hidden away somewhere after the last Underground Cafe show and needed music so I got out my battered CD walkman I scuffed up throughout Scandinavia and Asia. Works like a charm. (What exactly do charms do anyway? How do you know when they're working? Don't they just... dangle from QVC / Home Shopping Network bracelets? How's that called "work"?)

I've been recounting my Sweden trip often recently. Whenever people act surprised that a person could uproot and move out of the country in "such short notice" I have to laugh. Almost all my international trips after graduation (high school, mind you) were arranged in spontaneity. It's nothing foreign to to me to have little notice before leaving. It's part of the excitement, and it helps to keep the reality of exactly what you're doing delayed from setting in right away. In a good way. You'd probably freak out if you thought it all through at once.

I think I've been reliving or at least remembering my great travel memories through Jon's own recent incredible "short-notice, awesome opportunity, always wanted to do this" kind of travel. I couldn't be happier for the guy, but I have to say being in the middle of it all again has really stirred up my own travel bugs.

Before I get too wistful for Scandinavia in the fall.... mmmm... Sweden... crisp air and coffee.... chocolate... soup... dang I did it anyway. Before I get too distracted with travel nostalgia, I'm gonna start that coffee and make a respectable breakfast for this big day ahead.

Moral of the story - if you can get out and travel, GO.
You won't regret the experience.
You will, however, itch to do it again soon.

I think everyone should road-trip to Cali with friends at least once, don't you?
